The Six aircraft are, in order of appearance in the video: *1945 Taylorcraft L-2M, Registration N53050. *1943 Taylorcraft L-2M Serial No. 43-26502 “Jacks ‘R’ Wild” Registration N47207. This aircraft was delivered to the U.S. Army in Dec. 1943. It was stationed at Bowman Field, Kentucky, attached to the 1st Troop Carrier Command where it was used to train combat glider pilots. After the war the aircraft was converted to a civilian D model which removed the rear observation glass with the installation of a fas back similar to a J3 Cub. In 1999 the aircraft was restored back to military specs including operational spoilers. The original radios, battery and wind generator were not installed in order to save weight. *1943 Taylorcraft DC-65, U.S. Army L-2M. This L-2M, N47046, U.S. Army Serial No. 43-26363, is named “Bug Eyes” (Grasshopper looking for the enemy). This L-2 was stationed in Dayton, Ohio during the war and accumulated 225 hours training pilots. After the war it was sold for $1 to the private market. It was moved to Texas and stored in a barn until 1996 when purchased by its second owner and completely restored by Dick Hulsh of Alliance, Ohio. N47046 was then purchased by Paul Quinn in 2001 of Lancaster, Pa. who gave this aircraft its name, “Bug Eyes.” *U.S. Army L-4, N70615, Serial No. “Brother Time.” *U.S. Army L-4, N79731, Serial No. 44-79731. *U.S. Army L-3B, Serial No. 4214751, N39563. Piper developed a military variant variously designated as the O-59 (1941), L-4 (after April 1942) and NE (U.S. Navy). The L-4 Grasshopper was mechanically identical to the J-3 civilian Cub, but was distinguishable by the use of a Plexiglas greenhouse skylight and rear windows for improved visibility, much like the Taylorcraft L-2 and Aeronca L-3 also in use with the US armed forces. It had accommodations for a single passenger in addition to the pilot. When carrying only the pilot, the L-4 had a top speed of 85 mph, a cruise speed of 75 mph, a service ceiling of 12,000 ft, a stall speed of 38 mph, an endurance of three hours, and a range of 225 mi. Some 5,413 L-4s were produced for U.S. forces, including 250 built for the U.S. Navy under contract as the NE-1 and NE-2. All L-4 models, as well as similar, tandem-cockpit accommodation aircraft from Aeronca and Taylorcraft, were collectively nicknamed "Grasshoppers", though the L-4 was almost universally referred to by its civilian designation of Cub. The L-4 was used extensively in World War II for reconnaissance, transporting supplies, artillery spotting duties and medical evacuation of wounded soldiers.
