The Lallantop Show, Episode no. 1905| 16 December 2025 In today’s LT show, Kuldeep is discussing the following news Show will open with Dramatic two-window split-screen showing visuals of the Luthra brothers being brought back from Thailand to India. The Election Commission has released the draft electoral rolls for West Bengal after the Special Intensive Revision, slashing over 58 lakh names on grounds of death, migration, duplication, and absence during enumeration. This brings the state’s voter count down to around 7.08 crore from 7.66 crore, triggering a fierce political showdown ahead of the 2026 assembly polls. Affected voters can file claims and objections until mid-January, with hearings set to begin shortly. Trinamool Congress has cried foul, branding the exercise a BJP-orchestrated conspiracy to disenfranchise legitimate voters, particularly in minority-dominated areas. Mamata Banerjee has accused the Centre of targeting Bengali-speaking Muslims. The BJP, on the other hand, has welcomed the deletions, insisting the rolls were bloated with fake, dead, and duplicate entries nurtured by the ruling party. A significant concern revolves around Bengal’s OBC Muslim communities, with reports suggesting higher deletions in border districts and areas with alleged Bangladeshi migrants. The process involved progeny mapping, linking current voters to family members in older rolls, and self-mapping, where individuals directly confirmed their lineage to 2002 records; those without mapping faced greater risk of removal. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear challenges to the nationwide SIR exercise, with petitioners arguing it risks mass disenfranchisement. Nearly half the posts in pollution control boards across India remain vacant, severely hampering enforcement efforts at a time when winter smog chokes the capital. A recent survey reveals that 82 percent of Delhi residents personally know someone who has fallen severely ill due to air pollution. The vacancies and persistent toxic air underline a systemic failure in tackling what has become a perennial public health emergency. Opposition parties are up in arms over a proposed bill that seeks to replace MGNREGA with a new scheme, accusing the government of diluting guaranteed rural employment. Protests led by Congress have disrupted proceedings, with demands for adequate funding and retention of the existing framework. Debates on electoral reforms and pollution control may also feature amid the continuing deadlock. A Delhi court has refused to take cognizance of the Enforcement Directorate’s chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and five others in the money laundering probe linked to the National Herald case. The court termed the investigation flawed and malafide, effectively stalling immediate proceedings while allowing the probe to continue. Congress has hailed the ruling as vindication against years of alleged political vendetta by the Modi government. The copyright ownership in the video rests with India Today Group.
