(5 Oct 1995) Serbo-Croat/Nat Russia's deputy foreign minister Igor Ivanov met with the Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic in the northeastern Bosnian town of Bjeljina. Wednesday night's talks were the next steps in efforts to arrange the cease-fire. Both sides seemed positive on the outcome. As talks continue and a cease-fire seems close, Ivanov is attempting to secure the precarious situation in the Balkans especially for the civilians. SOUNDBITE :(Russian) We have held a frank discussion of all the issues connected to a peaceful settlement in Bosnia in particular we took a detailed look about how to achieve a cease-fire on Bosnian territory. The leadership of the Serbian side confirmed that they are prepared to accept a cease-fire agreement including resolving questions on opening the road to Gorazde and supplying Sarajevo with electricity ,water and gas SUPERCAPTION: Igor Ivanov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister SOUNDBITE :(Serbo-croat) We feel that there are quite a lot of things to be done, a great deal of the work has already been done with the Geneva and New York agreements as well as the cease-fire agreements, if it is signed. If Muslim sides accept a cease of military activities we would sign the cease-fire. The thing that is missing are the maps but we hope that we can end this war. Every war has to end and so has this one. All the prognoses are saying that the war will be over at the end of the year and the optimists think that it can happen even before that .
