This week, I'm starting a series of informal videos designed to clear up some misconceptions about playing brass instruments. In this video, I talk about why I intentionally and consistently place my mouthpiece off-center on my lips, and how this isn't necessarily a bad thing to do depending on your individual anatomy. In fact, for me it is the most easy and natural way to play the whole range of the trombone. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I also discuss how the top and bottom lips can differ in their roles when it comes to producing vibration, using the analogy of a single-reed instrument's mouthpiece. I’m available for online lessons and embouchure help. Just email me: [email protected] And yes, I'm covered in cat hair. My cats love me. Deal with it. 0:00 - Intro 0:44 - Off-Center Chops 2:05 - Demo - Yes, it works! 2:31 - Playing on-center (terrible!) 2:50 - Off-center aperture 3:10 - Summing Up 3:53 - Double Reed?
