LONDON (WKRC) - There was a surprising finding from researchers about smoking in a home with children. A study in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health found an association between every cigarette smoked by parents at home and a greater chance of children snoring on a regular basis. After reviewing 24 studies of 88,000 young people, researchers found children were twice as likely to snore if they were exposed to prenatal smoke. Children whose mothers smoked after birth were 90 percent more likely to develop regular snoring. If fathers smoked, that increased risk was at 45 percent. The National Sleep Foundation says some habitual snoring is not considered harmful. However, it can be an indicator of conditions that can disrupt sleep. Disrupted sleep has been linked to everything from behavior problems, to bed wetting, to obesity. Not smoking appears to be one way to reduce the potential risk for this problem.
