Sarah Parcak has one of the most interesting and unique jobs in the world: finding new archaeological sites across the world, using satellite imagery. In her role as the Founding Director of the Laboratory of Global Observation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Sarah uses the high-resolution imagery collected by satellites to identify subtle changes to the Earth’s surface, which might signal man-made features hidden underground. In her newest book, "Archaeology from Space," Sarah shows us the evolution, major discoveries, and future potential of the young field of satellite archaeology. From surprise advancements after the declassification of spy photography, to a new map of the mythical Egyptian city of Tanis, she shares her field’s biggest discoveries, revealing why space archaeology is not only exciting, but urgently essential to the preservation of the world’s ancient treasures.
