In order to defeat the US Army and South Vietnamese forces during the Vietnam War (or American War how it`s sometimes called), the Communist guerrilla troops known as Viet Cong dug tens of thousands of miles of tunnels, including an extensive network running underneath the Cu Chi district North-West of Saigon. Soldiers used these underground routes to house themselves, transport communications and supplies, lay booby traps and surprise attacks, after which they could disappear back in the tunnels to safety. To combat these guerrilla tactics, US and South Vietnamese forces trained soldiers known as “tunnel rats” to navigate the tunnels in order to detect booby traps and enemy troop presence. Now part of a Vietnam War memorial park in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly knowns as Saigon), the Cu Chi tunnels become a popular tourist attraction. Visitors to Vietnam can now crawl through some of these tunnels, view command centers and booby traps, and even fire the AK-47 rifle on a firing range. The tunnels were initially built during the French colonial period but were expanded and improved upon during the Vietnam War. They spanned an extensive network of over 250 Km and included various features such as living quarters, storage rooms, weapon caches, hospitals, kitchens, and even command centers. Here's how to get there: From Ho Chi Minh City: The most common way to reach the Cu Chi Tunnels is from Ho Chi Minh City. You can hire a taxi or join a guided tour offered by numerous travel agencies in the city. Many tours include transportation to and from the tunnels, as well as a guided tour of the site. Guided Tours: Joining a guided tour is highly recommended, as it provides historical context and insights into the significance of the Cu Chi Tunnels during the Vietnam War. These tours typically depart from Ho Chi Minh City in the morning and return in the afternoon, allowing for a comprehensive visit to the site. 00:00 - Intro 01:28 - Propaganda videos 02:36 - Vietnam military service explained 02:37 - First tunnel explained 03:19 - Tunnel hideout demonstration 03:37 - I get into the small tunnel 04:04 - Booby trap with poison spikes 04:27 - Military tank from the war period 04:47 - Many examples or booby traps 06:06 - Military bomb workshop 06:43 - Live shooting range (I didn`t try it) 07:04 - Backwards sandals explained 07:26 - Going underground into the actual tunnels (WOW) 10:01 - Final part
