AVA and B. Braun Medical: A Partnership to Improve Training in Peripheral IV Education

The failure rate of peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) remains at an alarming and unacceptable level in healthcare. While there are more than 380 million PIVCs placed in the acute care setting annually, between 33-69% fail prior to the completion of treatment. This impacts everyone, either at a personal level or through a loved one. In 2020, the Association for Vascular Access and B. Braun Medical, Inc. collaborated to create the Fundamentals of Peripheral IV Access, a series of educational courses centered on addressing this widespread problem and improving the training of the placement of peripheral IV catheters.
