Three-hundred people were also injured in the attack on October 12 at Paddy's Cafe and Sari Club discotheque on Bali's congested Kuta Beach area. About 100 investigators from Indonesia, the United States, Australia and other nations are now working on the case. They have determined that the main bomb was made of ammonium nitrate, a compound stockpiled by an Islamic extremist group allied with al-Qaida. Though police stopped short of saying that the bomb was made and planted by Jemaah Islamiyah, which has been blamed for a series of terror bombings in Southeast Asia in recent years, the use of ammonium nitrate reinforced suspicions that the group was involved. Jemaah Islamiyah is known to have acquired at least four tons of ammonium nitrate, an agricultural chemical that can be made into large car and truck bombs. Police say they have questioned 70 people but made no arrests in the Bali bombing. They say they do not know whether the bombers remain in Indonesia, an archipelago of 13-thousand islands.
