The Xela to Lake Atitlán Challenge 🇬🇹 | Chicken Bus, TukTuks & Local Travel in Guatemala

Join us on a wild journey from Xela (Quetzaltenango) to Lake Atitlán, Guatemala 🇬🇹 during Semana Santa (Holy Week). With only 200 quetzales in cash, locals told us it would be impossible to make it… but we gave it a try! We ended up taking 4 different transports – 1 chicken bus 🚌, 1 van 🚐, and 2 tuk-tuks 🛺 – plus some walking, all while trying to communicate with our almost no Spanish. The experience was full of fun, challenges, and the incredible kindness of Guatemalan people who helped us along the way. From chaotic bus stops to friendly smiles and breathtaking views, this was a true Guatemala backpacking adventure.
