Mike Ergo originally joined the United States Marine Corps with ambitions of playing saxophone in the Marine Corps Band. However following the Attacks on September 11, 2001, Ergo changed direction and requested transfer into the Marine Corps Infantry. Mike Ergo would go on to serve as a Marine rifleman with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines from 2001-2005 and deployed to Iraq twice. In late 2004, Ergo would be put to the ultimate test participating in the bloody Second Battle of Fallujah during Operation Phantom Fury.
