@studiofleurmeditations 👀 Someone requested this on my last meditation upload and I thought it was a great idea! Same wind-down as in the last recording but this time with positive affirmations on a loop. They surround health, love, confidence, relaxation and wealth. This ASMR guided sleep meditation is an audio-only recording. To prevent any unexpected post-roll ads, you can set a sleep timer through your youtube video settings as shown in the intro clip. If you set the timer to 60 minutes, no ads will disturb you, as it will stop before the video ends. This meditation includes a breathing exercise using physiological sighs to calm the nervous system, a body scan following the sensory and motor homunculi and looped positive affirmations with ocean waves in the background. Learn more 👇🏼 A physiological sigh is a breathing pattern of two inhales, followed by an extended exhale. It improves oxygen, activates our parasympathetic (calming) system, lowers our heart rate and stress hormones and can help reduce anxiety by changing interoceptive signaling. I like including ujjayi exhales, as the slight contraction in the throat stimulates the vagus nerve even more. The body scan: The sensory and motor homunculi are brain maps on the sensory cortex (for feeling) and motor cortex (for movement). it's kind of a body inside your brain! but very strange looking - google a picture of the humonculus if you want a little laugh (maybe not right before sleep lol). The proportions of the humonculus are based on the sensitivity of different areas of the body, so a large tongue, hands, feet etc. 'following' this motor-sensory cortex through a body scan is most often practiced in Yoga Nidra. When you “follow” or focus attention along this body map, you are essentially activating the brain’s sensory maps in an orderly, stable way. This stabilizes neural activity engages your parasympathetic and interoceptive circuits. Positive affirmations: Positive self-talk is important! To some it may be unfamiliar, new and even slightly uncomfortable. However, the benefits are great! They can help boost self-esteem, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote a more optimistic mindset. Regular practice can increase neuroplasticity, helping to rewire negative thought patterns, reduce stress and can overall help you become more resilient. You posess all these qualities, but sometimes you need a little reminder, especially from yourself! Why play them during sleep? Positive affirmations are often used during sleep because they can bypass the critical conscious mind and speak directly to the subconscious, which is more receptive to new information when you're in a relaxed, sleepy state. Affirmations are most effective when the brain is in a relaxed, twilight state (alpha to theta), not deeply asleep (delta), which is why I'd personally recommend them more for meditation practices, but playing them as you are falling asleep, where you naturally already pass through the alpha and theta states, can still be helpful :). I hope this gave a little insight as to what happens in the brain and body during this effortless, relaxing practice.
