Paying tribute to the classics with a new cover, revised version of "Oh Carol". Enjoy. The original song "Oh! Carol" was written and performed by Neil Sedaka. It was released in 1959 and became one of his biggest international hits, reaching the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. What did the song mean? The song is a lighthearted, catchy plea from a young man to a girl named Carol, begging her not to leave him or "treat him cruel." While it sounds like a standard teenage heartbreak song, there is a very famous and specific story behind it: The Real "Carol": Neil Sedaka wrote the song for his high school girlfriend, Carole King (who went on to become one of the greatest songwriters of all time, famous for Tapestry).
