Delhi’s entry ban on non-city private vehicles below BS-VI comes into force

The Delhi government has intensified its fight against worsening air pollution in the national capital. New restrictions are now in force, tightening checks on vehicle emissions and fuel access. Fuel pumps across Delhi have stopped supplying fuel to vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control, or PUC, certificate. The move is part of stricter enforcement under the Graded Response Action Plan, or GRAP, as air quality remains in the “severe” category. Non-Delhi private vehicles that do not meet BS-VI emission standards are also being denied entry into the city. The ban, however, does not apply to CNG and electric vehicles, public transport, or vehicles carrying essential goods and services. The ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule is being enforced using automatic number plate recognition cameras installed at petrol pumps. These are supported by voice alerts, ground staff, and Delhi Police personnel.
