Dunbar is a pleasant town on the North Sea coast of East Lothian, about 30 miles east of Edinburgh. The town is renowned for its high sunshine record, rugged coastline and attractive countryside. It is steeped in history and was one of the most important Scottish Fortresses in the middle ages. Dunbar Castle, built about 856, was an important stronghold against English invasion, and the town developed under its protection. It was designated a royal burgh in 1369. In 1568 the castle ,which stands guard over the town's twinned harbours ,was destroyed for political reasons, notably because of its close association with Mary, Queen of Scots , once sheltered Mary Queen of Scots when she fled Edinburgh after the murder of Rizzio #beautifulscotland #dunbar #visitscotland #scotland #shotoniphone #4kwalks #countryside #dunbarcastle #asmrsounds
