The Puyallup Vikings moved to 5-0 after hosting the defending WA 4A champs Sumner Spartans at Sparks Stadium on 10/4/2025. The Viks put in their bid for a claim to a #1 ranking in 4A. The top 3 contenders for such a claim are Graham-Kapowsin and Lake Stevens and both teams are also 5-0 and have also beaten defending state champs themselves (GK over O'Dea in a thriller and Lake Stevens over Sumner in a thriller, and Lake also beat the WA 3A runner up Bellevue). Puyallup came out of the gate swining and took a 31-0 lead into halftime. Sumner got a boost and taste of momentum on the 1st play of the 2nd half (a " #BeastQuake " type of 71-yard run by Oregon State commit Lance McGee, # 9). But, a few plays later Viks QB Noah Smith (# 11) hit Lawson Looker (# 3) for a 70+ yard score of their own. Then on the next Sumner possession, freshman LB Kitiona Tupua ( # 51) got a pick 6 and killed any sense of momentum Sumner had just a few plays earlier. This one was filled with big plays like the ones mentioned and plenty of hard hitting defense. Junior QB Smith (# 11) was very imrpressive, rolling out or escaping pressure and also throwing against his body while moving. Puyallup also had several big plays at WR by J'Isaish Mitchell (# 1)
