Located at the heart of the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, the IHU ICAN is a research center of reference and excellence in cardiometabolic diseases. The IHU ICAN brings together more than 460 researchers, physicians, caregivers and project teams, united by a common goal: to innovate and invent tomorrow's medicine in the field of cardiometabolism. When our metabolism goes wrong, diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hepatic steatosis and dyslipidemia can occur. Known as cardiometabolic diseases, these chronic pathologies are often responsible for cardiovascular diseases, which is the leading cause of death for women and the second leading cause of death for men in France. Cardiometabolic diseases develop silently, and are often diagnosed too late, during an acute episode that can lead to hospitalization or death. Our sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary habits and aging population are increasing the prevalence of cardiometabolic diseases. In France, they concern millions of people. It’s urgent to act! At IHU ICAN, our mission is to accelerate research through the structuring of cutting-edge technological platforms, a clinical research center specialized in cardiometabolic diseases, the constitution of patient cohorts, and the use of innovative techniques.
