Fica a 10 km de Cabanas e a 10 minutos de Manta Rota. Por muitos anos a pesca foi a principal fonte de riqueza e, nas últimas décadas, passou a ser um precioso destino turístico, mas ainda hoje os pescadores fornecem peixe e frutos do mar aos restaurantes locais. Foi um importante centro durante o período islâmico. Escavações arqueológicas (realizadas em 2007) determinaram que na Cacela Velha ficava a Medina de Qast’alla Daraj, centro islâmico da Gharb al-Andalus no século X. No início do século VIII, o território de Portugal e de Espanha era dominado por um rei tirânico Visigótico (Roderic). Sob as ordens do califa omíada, o corajoso Tariq bin Ziyad (donde vem a palavra Gibraltar) lidera o exército que conquista quase toda a Península Ibérica – em apenas sete anos. 🇬🇧 🌅📹👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 Cacela Velha is one of the most beautiful places you can go. Perched on a cliff facing the estuary, a whitewashed Cacela Velha from Vila Real de Santo António proudly emerges - a reminder of what the Algarve must have been like half a century ago. It is 10 km from Cabanas and 10 minutes from Manta Rota. For many years, fishing was the main source of wealth and, in recent decades, it has become a precious tourist destination, but even today fishermen supply fish and seafood to local restaurants. It was an important center during the Islamic period. Archaeological excavations (carried out in 2007) have determined that the Old Cacela was in the Medina of Qast’alla Daraj, the Islamic center of Gharb al-Andalus in the 10th century. At the beginning of the 8th century, the territory of Portugal and Spain was dominated by a tyrannical Visigothic king (Roderic).
