Shed hunting is almost a new national past time. Is it possible to turn your old dog into a shed dog with the right training? Absolutely. I have been interested in shed hunting from the time I was a little boy. We were camping and I stumbled onto an antler and I was intrigued. Over the years I have come across them from time to time, but a year ago I decided to teach my 6-year-old Yello Lab to help. That made all the difference in the world and on a trip to Southern Utah last year we found a monster deer shed. I decided that I was going to turn her into a deer antler dog. The best part of having a shed antler dog is the fact that dogs can cover 15x the area you do in the same amount of time. The real blessing, however, comes in the form of their nose. They have unbelievable scent abilities and because of that, your shed dog will find antlers you would never find in a million years. There are a lot of shed dog videos and shed dog tips out there. This video is going to walk you through exactly how I started my dog a year ago. I am going to do additional shed dog hunting videos in the next week. But this is the best starting point you can get for starting a new shed dog (regardless of their age). I would not start this way if I was working with a puppy. I am getting a new puppy in the next couple of weeks, so make sure you look for my video on teaching a puppy to shed hunt. Dog training is basically the same principle regardless of what you are trying to teach the dog. Baby steps will help your dog transition from each stage of shed dog training more quickly and with more confidence. I show you how to move from finding the shed out in the open to hiding it in your yard. This is how you get your shed dog to start "searching" for the shed
