Hiking the historical Chilkoot Pass trail in Dyea, AK! I hiked to the US/Canada border and back to Dyea for about 32 miles overall. For thousands of years this trail was used by the Tlingits as part of their extensive trading network. More recently, it was used in the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 as a way for stampeders to access Canada. The trail has an intense section known as the Golden Staircase, where hikers ascend almost 1,000 ft in less than a mile. I stayed at Sheep Camp, about 12.5 miles in, and hit the summit and back to the trail head the next.
