A first-of-its-kind network of biking trails in Maryland provides a new way to experience the outdoors for disabled athletes. There's something to be said about the healing quality of Mother Nature — amongst the trees, in the woods, going as fast as you possibly can downhill. For disabled athletes, the adaptive mountain biking trails at Patapsco Valley State Park's McKeldin Area provide physical and mental healing as they overcome injuries and trauma from past events. The trails, which are built to Kootenay Adaptive Sport Association (KASA) Adaptive Trail Standards, are modified to accommodate wider bicycles with three wheels and electric assistance, which can cost upwards of $25,000.
