East Ramapo Morton Silberberg asks for the Students at RISE (Rockland Institute for Special Education) to have their Friday start time to be moved up one hour. From some reason this year East Ramapo didn't do that with the bus school. As Jewish Schools had just a 1/2 day on Fridays in preparation for the Sabbath. At the next board meeting the school board approved a change to include one hour of busing on Friday afternoons for students who normally walk. The resolution does not specify when the extra service starts or how many months it’ll run, The service will be provided during the winter months at an estimated cost of $55,000 to $59,000. The extra hour of busing will help ensure children get home safely and “are not walking home in the dark,” claims a District spokesperson. East Ramapo Superintendent Deborah Wortham said, “The board’s decision to add one additional hour of busing was made in the interest of student safety.” Half day of school for Jewish Schools in East Ramapo has been the norm since they started. Has Wortham and the District been caught in a lie in order to get NYSED approval for the extra busing that was requested for any early start time? from the Sept 19, 2018 meeting
