As with all my compositions, the opening bars of this ‘Aria’ just seemed to drop from my fingers recently while I was improvising. I found myself exploring how far I could go (and still feel comfortable!) with a little more dissonance than usual, woven into those spicy chromatic harmonies that have become a bit of an addiction (sorry for all the accidentals!). The melodic line that gently drives the composition is a typically twisting Twist creation! I have to confess that the piece is really my homage to the Belgian organist and composer, Flor Peeters, having loved the music of his that I have played over the last forty-eight years (if only this ‘Aria’ of mine was equal to his genius composition!). As I finished scoring the work early this morning on Remembrance Sunday, I thought I would embellish the video upload with art work depicting poppies as a way to commemorate those who bravely gave their tomorrows so that we could have our todays. Once again, I have chosen the ‘Scots Pipe Organ Samples’ from Inspired Acoustics for this recording. The instrument is a symphonic virtual pipe organ chromatically sampled stop-by-stop using the 1999 Rieger Organ in the Scots' Church in Melbourne, Australia. Due to the wooden structures of the building, the church has a relatively dry acoustic, so I have added a little extra reverberation to enhance the ambience. If you would like a (gratis) copy of the score, just email me ([email protected]), or request the music via Messenger on Facebook.
