As Las Vegas grapples with a summer tourism slump, visitors are expressing mixed opinions about the affordability of hotel room rates. Valentine Georgina, visiting from San Francisco, described her recent trip to celebrate her birthday on the Strip as "expensive, very expensive." She said, "I've been here before and it was totally different. Everything was totally different. As far as room rates. As far as buying food. As far as comps." In contrast, David Allen, a tourist from London, said, "We come here every single year because it is such a good deal." He added, "We take advantage of the extremely cheap and very very good standard hotels - and the food, everything that goes with it seems to be cheaper here than anywhere else." According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the average daily room rate on the Strip this past July was $164 a night, which is $9 less than July 2023.
