Thank you, Thank you Mr. Jackpots! Player: ec2151 Score: 5,611,700 Played on MAMEUI248, with autofire Thumbnail commissioned by baf / @baf__ First off this was part of a community effort, and numerous players helped, strategized, and encouraged me to go for the big goal. I will name a few but many people cheered me on! Thank you. I could not have done this without the help of ProjectAKO aka @raygarcia2290 who coincidentally is the world record holder for Sonic Wings 2, with MaoMao. His help and theory-crafting gave me a lot of insights on how the game worked, its quirks and bugs - and how to exploit them - that I would have never considered. Watch AKO's SW2 world record video here: • Ako - Sonic Wings 2 - 3,339,600 (60FP... Also shouts out to la plaza raconteur @synthricardo1150 for cheering me on as resident dadge enjoyer. Special thanks to @toimine8930 who developed the strategies to safely deal with the UFO boss. I thought this boss was impossible until he opened the door. Sonic Wings 3 is an easier game than its predecessors, and has a big colorful cast, branching paths, and lots of fun shot types to explore. It's arguably the best in the series. Scoring is the most involved of the trilogy, combining classic "shoot everything" and "milk destructible bullets" with goofy bonus stages meant to give you a breather. MaoMao, like her appearances elsewhere in the series, is something of a mixed bag. Her shot is absolutely pathetic, as weak as bubble wrap. Check out how long it takes me to kill (or not!) the 1-2 boss, or some other enemies. Mao Mao's lasers are incredibly strong, but work in a really weird way. It's not really clear how they decide which targets to lock on to. But figuring out how to launch them successfully into an enemy is extremely important and the key to survival. I had to develop a lot of unusual positioning in order to best make use of them, because if they connect they will destroy enemy and boss alike. Just try not to get killed while you move around to set up your shot. MaoMao's bomb however, is the secret of her scoring potential. Through arcane positioning and luck, you can exploit the game's bonus stage in the pacific ocean, in which you cause a sprite overflow and force thousands of power-up icons, worth 2,000 a piece, to flood into your ship and watch your score balloon instantly. Do this stage perfectly, with 1% margin of error, twice! - and you have a shot at the world record if the game's nasty second loop bullets, rng rocks, and troll enemies don't snipe you out of the sky first. This is merely one of many hundreds of attempts! I did not think this would be possible so quickly, considering I literally just 2ALL'd the game for the first time the other night! But somehow, all the stars aligned and a miracle happened. Since I have over one hundred hours in practicing the game, and have practiced every single moment of the game, perhaps it was not so surprising that all it took was the right bit of luck to get this score. And lucky this run is! A lot goes wrong in it, outside of the bonus stage, where I almost die unceremoniously countless times (check out the loop 1 appearance of Mambo in stage 7 at 09:48, which I was convinced would end my run). I know I could even do better if I took more chances, but that might wait for now. Please enjoy! And before anyone asks, I have no idea how I survived 21:44 and 22:02. My dad always told me it's better to be lucky than good. 00:00 - Loop 1 12:02 - Loop 2 Live commentary version: / 2321902116 #shmup #sonicwings #ソニックウィングス
