In the wee hours of the morning, Jackie was tracking something fairly close to the nest. Because we did not hear any sounds, it was likely a Great Horned Owl, they are known as the silent hunters. Their calls are often heard on the live video. Jackie soon chortled out warning calls and within 10 seconds we could hear wing beats and a landing below the nest, this was Shadow coming in to help. Shadow eventually flew up to the back porch where he stayed for the rest of the night. This is the first time Shadow stood guard in the nest overnight. An excellent show of teamwork protecting their precious chick. Our little one had full confidence in its parents and slept through most of the action!
