One of the first friends I made on a dancefloor in New York City, Byld (a.k.a. James Preston) is bound to be a familiar face to anyone who has been to any good parties in Brooklyn over the last decade. Dedicated dancer, superbly talented instrumentalist, and consistent ray of light beaming down on all the best dance floors in New York City and beyond, James makes the dancefloor feel like home. James is also a superbly talented multi-instrumentalist who brings decades of experience as a working musician to his first formal foray into dance music production on this release. While still relatively new to DJing, James can already be seen playing regularly at beloved new NYC clubs like ANIMAL and Earthly Delights where he throws the HIGH SEAS party alongside his Underpass partner John Barera. "Veteran” and "mainstay," "firm disciple of the House and Techno world," and "NYC scene stalwart…” What more can be said about JB? As far as we’re concerned, John Barera has more than earned his jersey’s place in the Myrtle Ave rafters. You may know John from his lengthy resume spanning 2 decades and countless disparate nooks and crannies within the East Coast dance music underground. He is the co-founder of JACK DEPT, the techno/acid label and OG era Bossa Nova Civic Club party he ran alongside Volvox, member of B-Tracks, and behind the scenes at Supply Records and Cross Street Music. A beloved figure in Boston before making the move to New York City, John was a resident DJ at Middlesex Lounge’s long running weekly party Make It New and an early collaborator of Sorry fav (and engineer of this EP!) Ali Berger. John’s released records on labels like 2MR, Basement Floor, Allergy Season, toucan sounds, and Fortune Signal. He’s played everywhere too — Hot Mass, Fabric, Smart Bar, Razzmatazz, Fourth World, BASEMENT, Nowadays, Tangent Gallery Detroit, Tresor Berlin, Public Works & Space Miami's Floyd. A real mensch (and new dad to beautiful baby Veda Rosemary Barera), we’re so happy to have Barera as a friend and Sorry regular (can’t forget him and Brian Abelson’s beautiful collab Myrtle Ave Wetlands EP with Malik Alston & Malik Hendricks remixes from 2022!). Blue Emerald is as bright, jubilant, deep, and purposeful as John and James themselves. Lovely music made by people who love music.
