Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. Special Thanks to Dorian Oszczęda :) Serwus! Mianujã sie Andy. Jako sie mŏcie? Good day! My name is Andy. How are you? Let's talk about the Silesian language. Language: Silesian is a West Slavic language spoken primarily in the Silesia region of southern Poland and parts of the Czech Republic. Officially, Silesian is classified as one of the four major dialects of Polish" (alongside Lesser Polish, Greater Polish and Masovian). Many linguists and speakers argue for its status as a separate language due to its distinct phonology, vocabulary, and grammar. Closely related to Polish, it also shares significant mutual intelligibility with Czech, Slovak, Moravian, and Kashubian. Silesian is richly diverse, with numerous dialects such as Gliwice, Opole, and Cieszyn, often humorously noted by speakers who say “every town has its own way of speaking.” Historically shaped by German and Czech, modern Silesian exists in a complex linguistic landscape, where it coexists and blends with Polish in a mixed variety known as "krojcgŏdka" ('cross language' or 'hybrid language'), reflecting generations of bilingualism and sociopolitical pressure. People and Culture: The Silesians are an ethnically and culturally distinct group of the historical region of Silesia, an area shaped by centuries of Polish, Czech, Austrian, Prussian, and German rule. This layered history is reflected in the region's architecture, customs, cuisine, and identity. The Silesians proudly preserve their traditions, including folk music, dances, and regional festivals, while also adapting to modern Polish society. Cultural pride is strong, especially in Upper Silesia, where movements for the recognition of the Silesian nationality and language have gained momentum. Despite external pressures, Silesians continue to pass down their language, stories, and heritage, maintaining a unique cultural mosaic that blends Slavic and Central European influences. This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics. By raising awareness about linguistic diversity, the video seeks to foster a greater respect and recognition for various languages, particularly those that are endangered or underrepresented. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of languages by documenting and sharing linguistic knowledge, thus ensuring that these languages and their cultural heritage are not lost to future generations.
