#Definition of #Fascism Fascism is the ideology of the extreme right which fosters an authoritarian society based on rule by an elite headed by a supreme leader or dictator. Fascists usually win power in a state through a coup d'etat or during a turbulent revolutionary period when real or imaginary fears of communism lead large numbers of people to accept a radical transformation of democratic institutions to meet the problem of governmental instability. Fascism is often based on an exaggerated adulation of the nation, rejecting individualism and democratic concepts of limited government in favor of a system in which a disciplined people gives its full loyalty to an organic, monolithic state. Dissent is eliminated and unity is fostered by secret police terror, by extensive propaganda programs, by the curtailment of civil liberties, and by a single-party monopoly of power.
