What is Bullous Emphysema? This video covers the medical definition and provides a brief overview of this topic. 💥Bullous Emphysema [Full Guide] ➜ ➜ ➜ https://bit.ly/4eLlsTC 💥Respiratory Therapy Definitions [Glossary] ➜ ➜ ➜ https://bit.ly/3g6s4Pj Bullous emphysema is a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) marked by the formation of large air-filled spaces called bullae in the lungs. These bullae develop when alveoli, the tiny air sacs responsible for gas exchange, are destroyed. As bullae enlarge, they occupy space meant for healthy lung tissue, reducing lung function and making breathing difficult. The primary cause of bullous emphysema is smoking, as harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke damage alveolar walls. Other contributing factors include long-term exposure to air pollution, occupational dust, and chemicals. Genetic conditions like alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency can also increase the risk, even in non-smokers. Common symptoms include shortness of breath, chronic coughing, and chest discomfort. As the disease advances, physical activity becomes increasingly challenging. In severe cases, bullae can rupture, causing a collapsed lung, which requires emergency medical attention. Diagnosis involves chest X-rays, CT scans, and pulmonary function tests (PFTs) to determine the extent of lung damage. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms, improving lung function, and preventing further damage. Smoking cessation is the most crucial step to slow disease progression. Medications such as bronchodilators and corticosteroids can ease breathing issues, while pulmonary rehabilitation offers exercises and breathing techniques. For severe cases, surgery may be needed to remove large bullae or perform lung volume reduction surgery, allowing healthier lung tissue to expand more efficiently. Though there is no cure, early diagnosis and treatment can improve the quality of life and help manage the disease. 💥Bullous Emphysema [Full Guide] ➜ ➜ ➜ https://bit.ly/4eLlsTC ————— 📘 FREE STUFF ▪ Free Cheat Sheets 👉 https://bit.ly/3IKenWk ▪ TMC Practice Exam 👉 http://bit.ly/2XlwASL 📗 PASS THE TMC EXAM ▪ TMC Test Bank 👉 https://bit.ly/3QNqwLX ▪ TMC Exam Hacks 👉 https://bit.ly/3iLmVS2 ▪ Daily TMC Practice Questions 👉 http://bit.ly/2NnXh3C ▪ TMC Bundle (Save $) 👉 https://bit.ly/3CWhdUn 📕 MORE FROM RTZ ▪ Test Bank (Free) 👉 http://bit.ly/2Kp73ln ▪ Glossary 👉 https://bit.ly/3g6s4Pj ▪ About Us 👉 http://bit.ly/2Xgk5YH ▪ Testimonials 👉 http://bit.ly/2x7b5Gl 🌐FOLLOW US ▪ Instagram 👉 http://bit.ly/2FhF0jV ▪ Twitter 👉 http://bit.ly/2ZsS6T1 ▪ Facebook 👉 http://bit.ly/2MSEejt ▪ Pinterest 👉 http://bit.ly/2ZwVLPw ▪ Rumble 👉 https://bit.ly/3p7IS0H ▪ LinkedIn 👉 https://bit.ly/41uO2lx 🚑MEDICAL DISCLAIMER This content is for educational and informational purposes only.
