Community led sport: achieving greatness together | Judy Murray | TEDxGlasgow

Judy’s talk will focus on the development of a community-led programme for tennis and golf – with a central Scotland base capable of hosting international events – which will enable the building of a coaching workforce and introduction of both sports to more families and schoolchildren across the country. Scotland is home to some amazing world-class talent and leading creative, business minds. But we can be even more successful if we believe in ourselves, aim high and invest in our own people. ‎Someone has to first recognise the talent and then create the opportunity. And then it is just a question of working hard to fulfil the potential. I never would have imagined Scotland having two Wimbledon champions. This just goes to show that anything is possible. So now is the time for us to show the world what Scotland can do and I look forward to sharing ideas with the speakers and the audience about how we can achieve this together. Judy Murray is the holder of 64 Scottish tennis titles as well as the 1981 British Hard Court Women’s Doubles champions and represented Great Britain at the World Student Games. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh, Judy has had a prestigious coaching career and was the Scottish national coach from 1995 – 2002, LTA Coach of the Year in 1999 and is presently the GB Fed Cup Captain. She started the National Development School in Scotland, which, to date, has produced 4 x Davis Cup players, 1 x Fed Cup player, 4 x Olympians (2012), 2 x Grand Slam Champions, 1 x Olympic Gold medallist, 1 x Commonwealth Games Gold medallist and 1 x Top 50 WTA player.
