Police said the toll from Monday's bombing in downtown Beirut was 17 dead and about 120 injured. In Hariri's hometown of Sidon on southern Lebanon's Mediterranean coast, dozens of angry demonstrators attacked Syrian workers on Tuesday, lightly wounding five people before police intervened. There was also some stone-throwing following street demonstrations, but the security forces appeared to avoid confrontation by backing away from the protesters. Elsewhere in Sidon, black banners and pictures of the slain former leader covered the streets. In Beirut, mourners converged on the family's southern residence to offer their condolences. At the site of the bombing, troops clamped a cordon around the area.
