Laura Belin recorded this video on January 29, 2026, as an Iowa Senate Education subcommittee considered Senate File 2063. Republican State Senator Sandy Salmon introduced the bill, which would prohibit "courses and content relating to diversity, equity, inclusion, and critical race theory in general education requirements and core curricula" at Iowa's three state universities. Bill text: https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislatio... At the meeting, most public comments opposed the bill. However, Salmon and fellow Republican Senator Mike Pike voted to advance it to the full Senate Education Committee. (Democratic State Senator Herman Quirmbach opposed moving the bill forward.) Near the end of this video, after Salmon adjourned the meeting, Belin asked her whether courses on women's history or Black American history would be restricted under this bill. She didn't give a clear answer.
