BREAKING: “IT’S HIM OR US” - CHAIR OF SCHOOL BOARD THAT FIRED ENOCH BURKE FOR TRANS PRONOUNS REFUSAL Enoch Burke was returned to Mountjoy Prison tonight after the appeal hearing of his purported dismissal from Wilson’s Hospital School was held in Athlone. There were three individuals on the Disciplinary Appeal Panel hearing his appeal — Seán O’Longáin, Geraldine O’Brien (ASTI) and Jack Cleary (JMB). The Chairman of the Disciplinary Appeal Panel — Seán O’Longáin — attempted to disallow Enoch Burke from cross examining witnesses. After sustained objections from the Burkes, cross examination took place. There are serious concerns about two of the panel members of the DAP. Geraldine O’Brien was the panellist who replaced Kieran Christie, the Secretary-General of the ASTI who was removed from the panel following a judgment of the Court of Appeal in July 2025. At the outset of the hearing today, Ms O’Brien was asked by Enoch Burke whether she agreed with the statement made by the ASTI in September 2022 that “certainly we would advise schools to use the pronoun that the student wishes to be used”. She obfuscated, refusing to give a straight answer. Separately, in 2021–2023, Jack Cleary’s organisation — the Joint Managerial Body (JMB) — lobbied the Government to fund TENI, the radical transgender activist group. During the hearing Niamh McShane was challenged on a WhatsApp conversation she had with John Rogers, the former Chairman of the school’s Board of Management. The conversation took place two days after Enoch Burke’s request of Ms McShane at the end of a school chapel service to withdraw her demand to all staff to affirm transgenderism. In the exchange, Ms McShane asked “Do you hear he clearly says he will not accept transgenderism?” To which Mr Rogers responded: “Yes, it seems that it is him or us”. The Board of Management also strenuously opposed the putting into evidence of previous affidavits by the school. These affidavits related to serious errors in the Stage 4 disciplinary report against Enoch Burke. Enoch Burke was returned to prison after the hearing came to an end.
