The new 155mm/52 caliber MAG-ER is ultra-light weight gun system designed and developed indigenously especially for mountain warfare. Weighing less than 8 tons, the gun can be deployed easily at high altitude region with digital fire control. It has an impressive range of 41km. The gun is highly reliable with low maintenance cost. In towing condition, the gun speed is 60 km/h on asphalt and 24 km/h on rough terrain. MAG-ER is is capable of operating at elevation of -3° to 70° and can traverse at +/-23°. The gun has impressive firepower with rate of fire of the gun is 12 rounds in 3 minutes in intense mode and rate of fire is 42 rounds in 60 minutes in sustained mode. In burst mode the gun can fire 3 rounds in 30 seconds. The proof-firing trials of the MAG-ER is going on with the Indian Army, and the company is expecting an order from the service soon. Mounted Gun System In the era of UAVs, the towed artillery are vulnerable to loitering munition and armed UAVs. This where the need for shoot and scoot capability is felt where artillery gun and fire and change their position quickly to save themselves from counter fire. The Indian Army has requirement of nearly 814 mounted gun system. In this category, Bharat Forge has come up with 2 guns which are 155mm/39 Caliber MARG BR and 155mm/52 caliber Mounted Gun System. 155mm/52 caliber Mounted Gun System On 9th February 2023, Indian Army has released AoN for the procurement case – 155MM/52 calibre mounted gun system (MGS). Based on this requirement of Indian Army, DRDO along with Kalyani group has already developed 155 mm/52 calibre mounted gun system (MGS). It is based on BEML Next Gen. 8×8 High Mobility Vehicle. The MGS features a 155mm/52 caliber gun which is a version of DRDO-TATA/Kalyani developed ATAGS gun system. It will have an autoloader that can load a shell and a cartridge at any elevation of the barrel. It has “shoot-and-scoot capability” which is a much-needed requirement in modern era warfare and saves the artillery from counterattack by quickly changing its position. The gun system has a maximum range of 45 km and has a maximum speed of 80 km/h. The elevation angle of the gun ranges from 0° to +72°. MGS has ammunition-carrying capacity of 24 projectiles. In burst more the gun can fire three rounds in 30 seconds & in intense mode it can fire 12 rounds in three minutes. 155mm/39 caliber MArG 155 – BR The MArG 155 – BR has gradient negotiation of 30 degree and elevation from -2 to + 72 degrees. It has on board ammunition carrying capacity of 18 rounds with Zone 5 charge. The gun can quickly be deployed and can be brought into action in just 1.5 minutes in daytime and 2 minutes during night. The gun has a sustained rate of fire of 42 rounds in 60 minutes, an intense rate of 12 rounds in 3 minutes and a burst rate of 3 rounds in 30 seconds. The artillery part of the system is based on the 155mm / 39 light towed howitzer ULH (Ultra-Light Howitzer) developed by KSSL.
