Dream believes Killer can be a better person but he's done horrible things because he's being manipulated by Nightmare and influenced by the enviroment around him (dust,horror etc.) so he thought that maybe if he gave Killer affection he can point him in the right direction and change. yet, he ended up falling for him. At first he didn't think much of it because even if he is romanticly devoted to him it doesn't change the fact that he can stull change him yet he didn't realize how painful love can be. Cause a few weeks later Killer broke up with him. he said that they need to stop this because Nightmare found out about it and might do something if they continue their relationship. of course it was the logical thing to do but Dream couldn't handle it. he only dated Killer because he wanted to make him a better person but now he fell for him and he's leaving him. they never interacted since then. this is when the events of Shattered!Dream plays. from what i've reaserched Shattered!Dream ate the black apple out of guilt that he couldn't do a thing to help his brother. so he got corrupted. i'm not exactly sure what happened after that if Nightmare turned pasisve again? or if they're both corruoed now? cause it didn't mention anything else after that so i was lwft to my own imagination and head canons. Dream was overwhelmed with guilt and heart broken because of Killer that he fell into despair and ate the black apple. Nightmare witnessed it and started laughthing histeracly (this is me trying to spell 💀) the fact that his own brother gave up and joined him amused him. so they partnered up and Shattered!Drea joined Nightmare's gang. from their he meets Killer again. btw if your wondering why Nightmare said "New brother" is because since corrupted Nightmare and passive Nightmare are different people i thought maybe it's the same for Shattered Dream so that's why he said that. in my Head Canon Corrupted Nightmare or Shattered Dream are different people but share the same memories as their host (Passive Nightmare and Dream) but has a mind of their own. which is why they recall certain memories and know the people around them.
