Crews across Davidson County are racing to clear thousands of yards of storm debris left behind by last month’s winter storm, as officials warn clogged ditches and creeks could lead to flooding with rain in the forecast this week. Metro Nashville says more than 90,000 cubic yards of debris have already been picked up from curbsides, but downed trees and branches remain a concern in neighborhoods like Green Hills. What began as a snowy, icy mess is now creating a new danger. “When trees and branches block ditches and creeks, it can cause serious flooding problems,” officials said. Green Hills resident Robin Ruddy says cleanup has been overwhelming for many homeowners. “There were about six or seven guys with chainsaws cutting stuff up,” Ruddy said. Ruddy wasn’t able to clear the pile of branches in her yard on her own. Volunteers from Brentwood Hills Church stepped in to help get the debris cleaned up. “I have seen some trucks coming out, and they just fill up so fast that they have to go dump,” she said. According to the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT), Ruddy’s yard is a good example of how debris should be placed for pickup. Officials say piles should remain on private property near the road and must not block drains, ditches, creeks, sidewalks, or bike lanes. NDOT Deputy Director Philip Jones says crews are working around the clock. “We’ll be around to pick everything up, and we have a systematic way,” Jones said. “We’ve got over 100 trucks out in the county right now picking up storm debris, and we’re going to give everybody a first pass.” For large debris piles or creeks clogged with branches, NDOT urges residents to report the issue through Hub Nashville. One resident who submitted a request said the city responded quickly, noting crews were already working on the issue. NDOT says cleanup crews are working 12-hour days, seven days a week, until all debris is removed. Officials also note that all collected wood will be converted into mulch. https://fox17.com/news/local/downed-t... _______________ Follow! Like! Share! Subscribe!
