🦊 In this GCSE Physics video, we explain the gold foil experiment conducted by Geiger and Marsden in 1909, where alpha particles were fired at gold foil and most passed through, but a few were deflected, with some even bouncing back. This unexpected result led Rutherford in 1911 to propose the nuclear model of the atom, suggesting that atoms have a small, dense, positively charged nucleus, explaining the deflections observed. This model revolutionized the understanding of atomic structure, showing that the nucleus contains nearly all the atom's mass and is responsible for the atom's positive charge. 👋 Hi, we’re Launchpad Learning.
