Pakistan Urged To Unlock $8b Mining Potential By 2030: Reko Diq, Siah Diq, Thar Coal, Copper & Gold

Pakistan’s mining sector could become a $6–8 billion annual industry by 2030, up from just $2bn today, if the country acts fast to explore and develop its vast mineral reserves. At the Natural Resources and Energy Summit 2025, industry leaders stressed: 92 known minerals, with nearly 90% unexplored Reko Diq copper-gold project could generate $4–5bn annually Siah Diq may add another $1–2bn Thar coal, barite, lead, zinc could contribute hundreds of millions more Post-2030, Chagai copper & gold potential worth $5–10bn yearly Shamsuddin A. Shaikh, CEO of National Resources Ltd (NRL), warned that foreign companies could seize opportunities if local investors and policymakers don’t move quickly. Mining leaders also emphasised responsible mining, highlighting jobs, healthcare, education, and housing for impoverished communities. Insurance, governance, and modern technology were identified as essential for sustainable growth. “This is Pakistan’s moment,” Shaikh said.
