The University of Creative Arts closed in September cc2023 The historic structures have a history spanning more than 170 years, Campaigners protested the closure. To keep the campus in Medway. £17,000,000.00 was needed for upgrades which sadly could not be obtained, high running costs and government funding costs being cut sealed the fate of this once thriving educational location. The building is also said to be gradually sliding down the hill and needs underpinning. The origin of the university lies in the establishment of various small art schools, in the English counties of Kent and Surrey, in the 19th century. INFO In Kent, the first of these was Maidstone College of Art, founded in cc1867, and in Surrey the Guilford School of Art, founded in cc1856. During the Second half of the 20th century - many of these small art schools merged, eventually forming Kent Institute of Art & Design in cc1987 and Surrey Institute of Art & Design in cc1995. The two organisations then joined forces in cc1995 to become the University College for the Creative Arts at Cantabury, Epsom Farnham, Maidstone and Rochester. In May cc2008 the University College for the Creative Arts was granted full university status by the privy council, and adopted the name 'The University for the Creative Arts, officially in cc2008. In cc2016 it then merged with the Open College of the Arts. 👨🎓Some of the courses included - • TV, Film and Entertainment • Art & Photography • Fashion and Interior Design • Writing and Poetry • Music • Architecture • Animation ... THE EXPLORE We decided to take a look around the building after finding a seemingly easy point of entry, the campus was huge and still had some works of art on the walls. With the exception of a few broken windows and strange smells the sites buildings were in fairly good condition, although in some areas the wood flooring had began to lift, presumably from water damage at some stage. "It was an interesting explore and we even managed to access the roof for some amazing panoramic views."
