Krav Maga Self Defense includes three (3) different stances based upon the scenario. Passive Stance – This is the stance most commonly caught in as the person was unprepared when the attack was launched. This can include standing, walking, sitting, laying down etc. Semi-Passive Stance – Is an automatic reaction to a potential threat by somebody who does not want any conflict. They naturally start to step away from the potential threat which creates a semi staggered stance. It is very common for somebody to raise their hands with palms open in an attempt to calm the potential attacker down. This is typically an instinctive move that most everybody does to shield themselves from the potential threat. We utilize this same stance to our benefit to attempt to deescalate the situation and to make ourselves look non-threatening. Anytime we are in semi-passive stance, we should be attempting to create some distance between us and the threat. We do this by including footwork which you can find in another of our videos. Fighting Stance – If I am in fighting stance then I am attempting to defend and counterattack as necessary to allow the ability to create the distance. It is critical that I have a strong base to ensure I do not go to the ground. A strong fighting stance also provides the ability to deliver stronger and more effective strikes.
