Close look at the exterior and interior of the new Heidelberg university hospital emergency doctor car which is also referred to as "MIC" - "Medical Intervention Car". More information below. So what's the difference between a regular emergency doctor car and a "MIC"? The vehicle's equipment features ECMO equipment in a try to increase survival rates of CPR patients. It always carries 4 blood bags (type 0 negative), blood coagulation and thoracotomy equipment as well as some other equipment. This vehicle is a project in a 2 year trial. The major goal is to increase survival rates. Apart from that the organizers also want to bring clinical physician expertise onto the streets. I assume that the vehicle will most likely be stationed at the Heidelberg university hospital. A doctor (and a medic?) would jump into as soon as they get a call. The vehicle will only attend emergency calls of children below the age of 1 year and calls that require the specialized equipment or additional expertise of the physicians. Basically a good idea and try. On a side note I want to mention the huge overall shortage of doctors which is huge threat to the German healthcare system. But that's not the fault of this vehicle/ project. Personally I believe that one reason is the emergency doctor EMS system itself. There's quite a bunch of (critical) procedures, tasks and drug administrations that can legally only be performed by emergency doctors in Germany (while in other countries paramedics would be allowed to do most or all of these procedures). The car itself is a Volvo V90 Cross Country. Volvo donated the vehicle for this project. They've already said that they wouldn't have a problem if the period of the trial would be expanded. Very nice of them but that's also a good move for some advertisement. Personally I really like the regular V90, definitely a neat car! The V90 as a doctor car itself looks very interesting too. Even though the more I look at it the weirder the lights and the graphics get. Personally I'm not a big fan of that flash pattern of the lightbar. The lights in the grill are from 2 different manufacturers for whatever reason but that's why there 2 phases of the grill lighting. Fulda, Hessen (Hesse), Germany, May 2019.
