During our trip to Paris this June, we went to have dinner at Jean Imbert au Plaza Athenee. Jean Imbert is a Michelin starred restaurant inside the iconic Paris Hotel Plaza Athenee at 25 ave Montaigne. For lack of better words, I would just say Jean Imbert au Plaza Athenee is the most classically elegant restaurant we’ve ever been to. The highlight, in the center of the room, is a 40 foot long majestic marble table, king’s table. That’s where we sat. It could be a little overwhelming, maybe that’s the idea of king’s table. We usually prefer tables on the side which are more private. But for one time, we didn’t mind sitting in the middle of this magnificent table. I wouldn’t have the other way to experience a classic French dinner that might look like let’s say 100 years ago, of course with the modern touch. Besides the old recipes traced back to ancient French gastronomy, we came here for the Napoleon III style decoration from ceiling to floor. Everything is precisely down to the last detail, beautiful plates, polished silverware and crystals, splendid chandeliers with gold leaves, antique floral vases, candlelights, roman columns, you name it.
