#fridakahlo#watercolor#paintings#selfportrait#inspirational..........................................This COVID-19 pandemic challenged us in ways we could never have imagined. The physical and emotional struggles, coupled with uncertainty, is real and in times it can be overwhelming to handle. That’s why it became paramount to keep yourself positive. It’s a great time to revive your forgotten hobbies and passion that would give you sense of fulfillment and helps you stay focused. It may be reading books or cooking or painting or humming a song. For me it’s painting. Sharing one such painting here, which I painted during lockdown. Frida Kahlo’s Self Portrait, Dedicated to Dr Eloesser, 1940 All the Frida Kahlo’s painting tells a story about her personal life and events. But it is not all about her sufferings and life tragedy. But, it also tells a story of never loosing hope and fight for her freedom & emancipation. As in this painting, as the title suggests it is dedicated to the doctor who treated the pain that was in her right foot during her stay in San Francisco. There is a necklace of thorns which appears to be drawing blood from her neck. Behind her there are some large brown leaves and twigs and the cloudy sky. This all reflects the emotions she was experiencing during that time. But as you notice the vibrant color scheme she used in her favorite bougainvillea representation. It refers amid all the chaos, life can still be colorful and beautiful, if you want it to be. Frida valued and celebrated characteristics that patriarchal society has labelled unfeminine and ugly. . Despite the harsh gender inequality her defiance against to follow social conventions needing to fit in society is nothing less than admirable. Frida Kahlo will always be remembered as great artist who broke all conventions and shaped feminism through her art and life.
