Ah yes, the Pac-Pack, I remember first knowing about it from Vinesauce Vinny in his Crappy Pac-Man Games video, in which I'd like to also nickname the "Pac-Guy Collection", since really, it's only a collection of Pac-Guy games. I remember finding a copy of the Pac-Pack for only $2 at a thrift store, and while it's the one that only contains 6 games, I still think it's an alright deal for playing the Pac-Guy games physically. Pac-Guy, being the first in the series made by Astral Entertainment, is of course, a Pac-Man ripoff. Heck, even the game description claims to say it's a Pac-Man ripoff, so it's straight up shameless. But how does Pac-Guy play? Well, unlike Pac-Man where you constantly go in one direction when moving, here, you move manually, which is unusual, but I think it does work okay for a ripoff like this, mainly due to also being ammo based when it comes to killing the enemies to progress easier. The ammo in question basically works like the power pellets, since they appear much longer than the regular pellets. However, it mainly becomes a problem due to the enemies having a pretty bad AI and sometimes spazzing out, which makes enemies especially hard to hit, and that's where the poor game design of this game comes in. Honestly, the ideas of this game are really good on paper, but in execution, it just falls flat, but I can't help but oddly like this game, coming from someone who unironically likes bad games. There's not much I can really say for the graphics, I'm guessing some assets were stolen, maybe? But it's mainly the usual pre-made Clickteam Fusion/The Games Factory assets I would see in other games using the engine during the time period this game came out. As for the music? Well, even the music is straight up shameless. MIDIs from DOOM and Chip's Challenge were used here, but the true icing on the cake is when Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid and some MIDIs from Star Wars were used. It's like, man, I wonder how they got away with putting this game on store shelves. And well, I guess the worst of all is, I had to re-do this longplay a 2nd time, because apparently I wasn't capturing footage of this game the 1st time, though I surprisingly did much better on the 2nd longplay attempt, as I never got sent back to a previous level from losing lives. So overall, yeah, this ripoff of Pac-Man is bad, but I would still say it's one of those so bad it's good kind of games. I may not come back to it that much, but man, I just really like the charm of old, bad games made in the Clickteam Fusion/The Games Factory engine. And of course I might longplay the later Pac-Guy entries for my gaming channel as well.
