WEBSITE www.studiothikoan.com (Text in Vietnamese below) François Bibonne, a son of Vietnamese descent, went back to his grandmother’s home country to explore his long lost roots and research about classical music in Vietnam and the various sounds of this country. He finally came up with an idea to film the documentary “Once upon a bridge in Vietnam” and this is the first production of Studio Thi Koan - production company set up by Francois with the mission of supporting classical music in Vietnamese and promoting music in Vietnam to the world. These are some interesting facts about the project: 1. The French director François Bibonne has a special tie with Vietnam. He has learnt about this far-away homeland through stories told by his beloved grandmother for as long as he can remember. After her death, Francois felt a strong urge to take a trip with his family to Vietnam and finally see this mysterious, charming land for himself. Given his background in piano and history, together with his passion for classical music and a new-found interest in filmmaking, he decided he should do something to help develop the music scene here in Vietnam. 2. The film talks about the conversation between Vietnamese traditional music and Western classical music and how they have intertwined throughout the modern history of music in Vietnam in the most fascinating way. This theme is explored in a dynamic context, taking perspectives from different generations of Vietnamese people to figure out how these two music styles of the past have managed to stay relevant in today’s modern society. 3. The film features and honours a number of female classical musicians who have become powerful leaders within the music scene in Vietnam. 4. The film also makes a quick introduction about "Thanh Âm Xanh - Âm nhạc dẫn lỗi rừng xanh", a non-profit music project created to fundraise 1 million bamboo trees planting project. Finally, we would very much appreciate it if you could kindly share this post to support the project. By doing so, you shall contribute a small part to promote Vietnamese culture to the international community. Together let’s turn music into a magical bridge connecting Vietnam to the world. - Music in the video trailer below - Những kỷ niệm quê hương - Hoàng Dương - Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra Echo Sound - Hồ Hoài Anh, Arr.
