It powered our little RV while we got our land ready to build on. First, we had to clear over 30 full-grown pine trees. Justin tore through two chainsaws, taking these trees down, and wound up using the axe for the final tree! Then we dug out the roots for weeks on end. Our trusty L47 Kubota tractor leveled the building pad, and we swapped out the digger bucket for an auger to drill holes for our pier and beam foundation Once the piers were cured, we placed the beams and built the floor. When we framed up the walls, Lil found out she was pregnant and largely tapped out of the build for a bit. But, she was there every step of the way, usually with a camera in hand. She provided snacks, drinks, and lots of moral support in the form of roasts and jokes. We continued to homestead and live the off grid life as we built on weekends and sometimes at night. Baby 5 joined the crew, just in time to finish the roof, and Lil was able to jump back into the build to help put up the Hardie plank siding. This timelapse makes it look smooth and easy, but it's been anything but smooth and easy. We've had to grapple with hurricanes, floods, snowstorms in south Georgia, machinery breaking down, delays, illness, solar system troubles and upgrades, predators, and even nasty roosters. We stick to our motto that we're not just raising walls; we're raising a family. The kids are here every step of the way with us, learning skills and determination, and inspiring us with how they look at life like one exciting adventure.
