They show the bottom of this Chinese fighter and they are probably the best photos of the J-20's electro-optical targeting system. This system, located just below the cockpit, is one of the most critical parts of the J-20's advanced integrated electro-optical system. Interestingly, at the time of the J-20 making its first flight, this device was not installed on the J-20 prototype, which raised a lot of questions on social media. Finally, a J-20 with this optical system appeared in 2011, and soon after, more details emerged about the J-20, which not only shows an electro optical targeting system close to the radar but also a distributed integrated electrp optical system covering all directions. Therefore, in this aspect, the J-20 is the world's most advanced fighter, along with the U.S. F-35 fighter jet and superior to the F-22 fighter. The F-22 programme originally had a complex optic system planned, but it was cancelled during development. The photoelectric window complex under the nose of the J-20 looks like a cut diamond, with a very attractive appearance. It consists multiple pieces of light-transmitting material. It is believed to have a special shape, as well as special coating, to ensure it does not impact the stealth effectiveness of the J-20. This system is likely specifically for ground searching and tracking with high precision. Around the J-20 airframe, there are a few distributed photoelectric system windows. This distributed system covers all directions around the J-20. Overall, the system is close to a similar system on the F-35. Since the J-20 system is still classified, we can study the F-35 system to get some ideas.On the F-35, the distributed aperture sensor system includes six sensors pointing in different directions, enabling 360-degree detection. Through data fusion, the system provides the pilot with 360 degree of view, enhancing situational awareness, missile warning, search and tracking capabilities. So, the larger system under the nose is mainly for ground attack, the distributed system is mainly for air combat and self defense. The J-20 is believed by many to have a similar design with the F-35. And the J-20 pilot is also equipped with an advanced helmet-mounted display for acquiring 360-degree view after data fusion.
