Teachers Benefit at Kiddie Prep School

As part of the Kiddie Prep School Partnership with Possibilities Northeast (PNE), teachers benefit as well as the children! They sometimes need support as well, even if children in their classroom do not have a developmental or intellectual disability. Video Script: Kimberly Brosman/Assistant Director: Our goal is to work with the parents so it's admin staff teachers and parents working together for the best interest of the kids to make sure that they can be the best person and more successful in life and sometimes we can see things that you know parents can't and other times parents notice things that maybe we not necessarily notice so the more that we can communicate together the better that we can work together as a group to help their students. Taylor Heckley/2.5-3 Year Old Teacher: We have 14 kids in our class so it's not always possible for us to give every child one-on-one time as much as they need it so being able to the therapist being able to pull the kiddo out and just having that one-on-one time with them is really beneficial. Emily Dills/Parent & Kiddie Prep Teacher: I've had a few students that were having a little bit difficulty and I could go down and talk to Cassie and just get some input some ideas that maybe I wasn't thinking about so it's really nice to know that we have that support if we need it and that it's great to know that the students are getting the support too and in the same building. Jennifer Carmer/Pre-K Teacher: To see if they have any suggestions and sometimes that's with the kids that they specifically work with and sometimes it's other students in the classroom that you know hey can I just pick your brain real quick and do you have any ideas on that so. Abigail Troyer/2 Year Old Teacher: Seeing kids just develop more in their personality and feel more comfortable in school because they have the tools and resources that they need to actually effectively be in a classroom and honestly thrive in a classroom. I've seen violent behaviors go down in children just because they have that they have a better outlet for their emotions. Madi McCloskey/Director: That's a beautiful thing because zero to five when things are caught and intervened we can almost eliminate so many things that they would have to get when they're in kindergarten to be pulled out for SPED. So we can work on those things here. We can work on those skills, integrate them into the classroom, help get them up to a developmentally appropriate level and then by kindergarten they wouldn't need any special pull outs or any special therapies because it's a lot different environment when they get into kindergarten and so just making sure that they're kindergarten ready. Video #3 Kimberly Brosman/Assistant Director: Concerns that we look for as kids who are not speaking or having trouble speaking or if they're have if it's really hard for us to understand them and then kids get really frustrated because they're not communicating or they think they're communicating but they're not communicating in the way that we can understand them we also for younger ones obviously if they're not speaking a lot they have a lot of biting or if they use different ways to communicate like whether they're pushing or taking toys and not necessarily using their words but communicating in other ways biting and pushing are some of the things that we look for with our younger ones especially. Taylor Heckley/2.5-3 Year Old Teacher: The beginning is when I talk to the parents about what we're seeing mostly because parents want what's best for their kid and even if it means a little help in one area or another it doesn't mean your child is failing it doesn't mean they're different it doesn't mean anything except for let's come alongside and make them the best little human that they can be.
