A congenital block vertebra, also known as a blocked vertebra, is a congenital (present at birth) spinal anomaly that affects the development and formation of the vertebral column. In a normal vertebral column, individual vertebrae are separated by intervertebral discs, allowing for flexibility and movement of the spine. However, in a congenital block vertebra, one or more adjacent vertebrae fail to separate properly during fetal development, resulting in the fusion or partial fusion of these vertebrae.
